5 Steps Community Nursery
We believe in education along with the socialization of children interacting with one another. Whether you have a 3 month old or a 5 year old, we are committed to provide your child the attention and care he or she deserves and will help to develop their skills.
Baby Room Aspirations
In our Baby Room we focus on the individual needs of each child and follow your child’s routine. Our aim is to provide a calm, caring and nurturing environment for your Baby where they can develop positive attachments and form their first relationships with peers and adults.
· We will encourage babies to be mobile and use their bodies in different ways. Through the activities and experiences we provide, babies will practice waving, kicking, rolling, crawling and walking developing muscles to enable them to control their whole body.
· From 10 - 12 months old we will encourage the weaning from dummies and bottles to help the development of the muscles in the mouth and tongue used for forming sounds and words.
· We encourage babies to become somewhat independent, being able to feed themselves using a spoon and drink water from a free flo cup. We want them to become aware of the daily routine and be willing to cooperate with hygiene routines such as washing their hands.
· We want to enable babies to communicate their needs and make requests, by using basic Makaton, pointing at, or saying single/two words. We encourage them to copy and imitate gesture, sounds and words said by others noticing the changes in pitch, volume and sounds.
· We will encourage lots of talking as this is one of the most important skills your baby will learn. By talking, reading books and singing with your baby we are providing them with the stimulation they need to develop their cognitive, language and emotional development.
· When a child graduates from Baby Room, we want them to feel happy and confident in the environment we provide, being able to build relationships with adults and other children and play alongside each other.
Toddler Room Aspirations
For our Toddler aged children, 2-3 years old, our children will be mainly learning through play based activities, during this stage of their learning. They will also be learning about routine and developing early literacy and maths skills, finding out about the world around them and learning social skills.
We would like our Toddlers to:
· Feel safe and comfortable in our nursery environment, be confident to explore it, eager to try new experiences and find their own way to solve problems.
· Be able to walk, run, jump, climb, and use the stairs and the nursery outdoor equipment independently.
· Sit on a push along wheeled toy and ride a tricycle or a scooter.
· Be ready to start toilet training, beginning to be independent in self-care such as washing hands, dressing and undressing, being able to feed themselves with a spoon and fork and drink from an open cup.
· Become aware of own feelings and those of others and start developing skills to manage them.
· Show an interest in other people and children, playing with peers and making special friendships.
· Expand their vocabulary, understand more complex sentences as well as ‘what, how, when’ questions.
· Start using language to attempt conversations with others about their thoughts, feelings and experiences.
· Understand and be able to follow simple instructions, such as ‘please can you get me an apple’ when asked to do so.
· To be confident with the nursery’s routine, able to sit in a small group for 10-15 minutes and actively participate during story times, singing and other activities and experiences throughout the day taking turns with our other children.
